Excellent Job for 2006 Says Yahoo & USNWR
Yahoo! reports that US News & World Report has listed careers it considers “excellent” for 2006. Woo hoo, “librarian” makes the list, along with audiologist, professor, firefighter, and clergy. Interesting mix. Here’s what it says about being a librarian:
“Librarian. This is an underrated career. Most librarians enjoy helping patrons dig up information. They learn in the process and keep up to date on the latest books and online resources. The need for librarians, unfortunately, may decline because search engines make it easy for patrons to find information without a librarian’s help. The job growth for librarians will be in nontraditional settings: corporations, nonprofit organizations, and consulting firms.”
So, if job growth will be in “nontraditional settings,” all of which look to me to have been around for decades and pretty much define the membership of the Special Libraries Association (aka SLA), why isn’t that organization’s URL provided in the reference section rather than ALA’s??
