I'm worried. We are unhappy with the way ProQuest handles our database. I hope the Dialog branch continue to upload data as before and continue to offer their powerful command line search language.

Wow. I had totally forgotten about M.A.I.D. Back in the day at Lippincott we were an early adopter of their system. While Dialog needs to be revamped in the ways you suggest I would be disappointed if they did away with the classic command system. When I have serious research to do, that's my preference. It still beats everything out there for speed, power, control, etc. Fortunately, as an adjunct at Drexel, I have an account I use with my classes. Yes, I still think the best way for professionals to learn how to search is to learn Dialog. Even if you never use it, it teaches you so much about how search systems work. If you can search Dialog, you will have the confidence to take on any system and master it.
