Taking the Shuttle into Denver
I arrived at Denver’s International Airport late yesterday afternoon and caught the SuperShuttle to the convention area. Unlike taking a taxi, the SuperShuttle is a group, almost communal, experience. Everybody on my shuttle was in Denver to attend SLA. Although none of us knew each other, introductions quickly put us in a collegial mood and discussions about libraries, jobs, and local Denver information made the trip to our hotels the perfect beginning to the conference. It’s one of the characteristics of SLA members that I treasure, the willingness to share and be proactive in reaching out to others.
My very first SLA conference, which I attended as a student and stayed in a dorm room at the University of Denver where SLA had arranged student housing (I don’t think the association does that anymore), was in Denver. Boy has it changed since then. The then-airport (Stapleton) was lots closer to town, for starters!
And thanks to the ADM guy who told me he reads my blog!
